Come From Away

Come From Away at Liddy Doenges Theatre at Tulsa Performing Arts Center

When a story begins with 38 planes unexpectedly landing in one small town, the stage instantly has your attention. Come From Away turns that true moment after September 11, 2001 into a musical about how Gander, Newfoundland opened its doors to stranded airline passengers and the people who met them there. Theatre Tulsa brings this locally produced production to Liddy Doenges Theatre at Tulsa Performing Arts Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on November 7, 2026, at 8:00 PM, placing a deeply human story at the center of an evening out.

What makes the show so appealing is its focus on connection. Irene Sankoff and David Hein wrote the book, music and lyrics, shaping a piece that looks closely at kindness, cultural differences, and the way strangers can start to understand one another under pressure. The story has humor, warmth, and a clear emotional pulse, which helps explain why it has resonated so widely. You do not need to know a lot about musical theatre to follow the premise; the appeal is immediate and recognizable.

There is also a strong sense of background behind the title. The original Broadway run at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre lasted five years and 1,669 performances, and the musical won the 2019 Olivier Award for Best New Musical. Those details speak to its staying power, but the real draw here is the production itself and the way Theatre Tulsa presents locally produced work with Tulsa talent.

If you want local theatre performances with heart, perspective, and a story grounded in a real moment of crisis and welcome, this is an easy one to consider. Browse the ticket listings for Come From Away and see how this November performance fits your plans.
