Tulsa Attractions for First-Time Visitors
Visiting Tulsa for the first time? Pair a downtown neighborhood with one attraction elsewhere in the city. Art, outdoor play, hands-on science and music history offer very different days. Choose what interests your group rather than trying to see everything in one trip.

Choose Philbrook for art and gardens, Gathering Place for an outdoor visit, or Discovery Lab for hands-on family activities. Add downtown for music museums, Greenwood history or an evening show. For a short stay, pick one main attraction and one nearby area to explore.

These places take you beyond a downtown-only visit. Each suits a different kind of day.
Give Downtown a Place in the Trip
For music and art, spend time in the Arts District. The Bob Dylan Center and Woody Guthrie Center offer different stories about songwriting, while galleries and live venues make it easy to add an evening plan.
For Greenwood, start with the district’s history guide and make time for its museum and memorials. It calls for a different pace from a general sightseeing afternoon. For architecture and a broader downtown overview, use the downtown activities guide.

Build a Day Around Your Interests
For art and fresh air, choose Philbrook’s galleries and gardens, then leave the rest of the afternoon open. If you prefer a larger outdoor outing, make Gathering Place the main stop rather than squeezing both into a tight schedule.
For children who like to build and experiment, pair Discovery Lab with time outdoors at Gathering Place. The museum has its own admission and hours; access to the park does not include museum entry.
For a music weekend, combine a daytime Church Studio visit with a concert in the evening. Choose the performance first, then arrange the museum and meal around it. A recording-history visit and an evening ticket are separate bookings.
Only Have Part of a Day?
Choose one main attraction. A museum visit followed by a meal, or an outdoor afternoon at Gathering Place, can make a satisfying first look at the city without spending the visit traveling between stops.
If your time is tied to an evening event, stay near the venue for the daytime part of the trip. Explore one downtown district, have dinner and head to the show. Save the farther citywide stops for a day when you can enjoy them without a deadline.
Settle Opening Days and Transport First
Check opening days before you choose the order of your visit. Philbrook is closed Monday and Tuesday, while Discovery Lab has different public and member access periods. For Discovery Lab, confirm that day’s hours on its calendar or by calling before you travel.
The places in this guide are spread across Tulsa. Group stops that suit the same part of town and decide where you will need a car or ride. Do not assume a hotel described as downtown puts every attraction within an easy walk.
