Tulsa Ballet: The Nutcracker

Tulsa Ballet: The Nutcracker at Chapman Music Hall at Tulsa Performing Arts Center

A holiday classic meets a distinctly Tulsa sensibility when Tulsa Ballet: The Nutcracker plays Chapman Music Hall at Tulsa Performing Arts Center on Saturday, December 19, 2026 at 2:00 PM. The draw starts with the story itself: young Marie on Christmas Eve in 19th-century Germany, the Nutcracker Prince, the Mouse King, and the Sugarplum Fairy all giving the ballet its familiar shape. That blend of wonder and narrative clarity makes the production easy to step into, even if you know the tale only by reputation.

What gives this staging its own identity is the company behind it. Tulsa Ballet describes its artistic roots as blending classical dance with dramatic theatre, a combination that suits a work where movement has to carry mood, character, and story at once. Choreography by Val Caniparoli and Ma Cong adds a specific creative signature, giving audiences a chance to see a well-known title shaped through the company's approach rather than treated like a generic holiday offering. For anyone browsing theatre shows in Tulsa, that balance of recognizable tradition and artistic detail is part of the appeal.

The production also comes with the reputation of a company Tulsa Ballet says is regarded as one of the top ballet companies in North America. That kind of standing matters when you want a seasonal performance that feels polished and substantial, not just familiar. This date offers a straightforward reason to lean into the season with a story that has stayed in the ballet repertory for good reason.
